Microchipping

Microchipping brings lost pets home!

Microchipping Your Pet

Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to ensure you are reunited if your animal happens to get lost.

Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to ensure you are reunited if your animal happens to get lost. Microchipping is a minimally invasive procedure, in which the microchip (approximately the size of a grain of rice) is injected under the skin near your pet’s shoulder blades using a needle. The procedure is very similar to receiving a vaccination, quick and nearly painless. Once your pet is microchipped, you will need to register your information with the microchip company. The process for doing this depends on the brand of microchip your pet has been implanted with.

Most vet clinics and all animal shelters are able to scan lost animals for microchips. If one is found, the microchip number is looked up in an extensive data base. As long as your information is registered, the clinic or shelter that has found your pet will be able to contact you right away.

CNHS offers microchipping as a service to the public. We do ask that you call ahead so we can ensure that we have appropriate staffing on hand. The fee to microchip your pet at CNHS is $25 per pet. We do occasionally host “Microchip Clinics” in which we offer microchips for a discounted fee.
